What You Take Off, Helps Us Take Off
21st November 2008
THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY FOR YOUR 'BRA-VELLOUS SUPPORT' - WE HAVE NOW PASSED OUR 200,000 BRA TARGET!!
Our BAG IT UP Bra Campaign for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance was launched in Autumn 2006, to find 200,000 unwanted bras from around Yorkshire.
All ladies have bras that don't fit, that are uncomfortable or that are just unloved! It has been reported that most women have at least 4 bras that they never wear. Many of these bras are thrown away with the household waste, destined for landfill.
Bras are worth more to the charity than our mixed clothing grade, but because they are so small and lightweight, it is hard to find enough bras to meet the bulk demand from overseas markets, particularly West Africa.
200,000 bras guarantees a minimum sum of £10,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance!
Our quirky campaign which was first launched with the Yorkshire Federations of Women's Institutes, has attracted supporters from all over Yorkshire, and of all age groups, including the Lions International District Club 105c, Sainsbury’s, local businesses, schools, colleges, community groups, social clubs ... the list goes on.

How you can help
Every single bra helps! If you have only a 'handful' which you can post, please send them to us at:

For all of our Yorkshire residents you can place your bras into a bag very clearly marked up 'BRAS' and place them in any of the clothing recycling banks we have throughout the region. See the the top of the page for our postcode locator to find your nearest bank.
REMEMBER: We also collect any of your unwanted clothes, shoes and household textiles in these banks, which help us to donate approximately £20,000 to this life-saving charity every month! Please have a spring clean out now to see how much you could donate.
If you would like to donate bras because you have seen the LingeriePlease campaign, then please mark your package 'Lingerieplease Bra Campaign'.
What happens to the bras?
All bras are repacked at our warehouse, before they are sent to one of our grading partners, to be pressed into bales ready for shipment to West Africa. The importer sells his purchases to market traders and shop owners, where local women can buy quality used bras at affordable prices. Funds raised from the sale of your recycled bras, help the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to save lives across our region!
NB: We only sell to recognised traders in the UK and abroad, where the demand for quality clothing is high, and there is a used clothing market freely available to all.
Thank you for your support!

Please place them in your nearest YAA clothing recycling bank in a bag clearly marked 'BRAS'.
