CancerCare Bra Amnesty
05th February 2009

Bra Amnesty

Do you have bras that just aren’t working for you? Then let them work for us! CancerCare launched an appeal for all your unwanted bras.

We all have a few bras that never see the light of day – either because they don’t fit or we just don’t like them. Well, here’s your incentive to clear some space in your drawer and give the charity your support (in more ways than one!)

Second-hand bras are in considerable demand, particularly in West Africa, where traders can buy and sell quality garments at affordable prices. Most unwanted bras end up in landfill but now we can recycle them to raise money. Not only will you be helping CancerCare and the environment but also women in other parts of the world who do not have easy access to such items.

Walkers at the StarWalk at Lakes Leisure, Kendal, on Saturday 9th May dropped hundreds of bras into the special collecting boxes on the night.  Bag It Up were also there to support the event, walking the 15k in just under 3 hours!

You can still support the CancerCare appeal by donating your bras in CancerCare’s shops & centres, Westmorland Shopping Centre and other local shops and businesses, or post them to:

Old Mobile Phones

Each household in the UK has an average of two to three unused mobile phones and, once again, recycling these items can bring in valued funds that will help CancerCare to help others.

Discarded mobile phones, iPhones and BlackBerrys are resold in the UK and overseas. Newer models have a much higher value than older models, whereas the metals and other materials are recycled from obsolete models. By recycling and reusing these unwanted items, potentially toxic waste is diverted from landfill.

Mobile phones, iPhones or BlackBerrys can also be donated at the above points or posted FREE to:
