Textile Banks
Q. How big are the charity textile banks, and how can I identify them?
A. The textile banks measure 150cm Width x 126cm Deep x 192cm Tall. They are hard to miss! Each charity has its own vinyl with the charity name and details clearly identified. At the bottom, the
Bag It Up logo, web site address, and telephone number can be clearly seen. Most are located in supermarkets, household waste sites, car parks, and pubs. Please visit our postcode locator at the top of the page to see where the nearest one to you is sited.
Bra Campaign
Q. So what happens to the bras I donate?
A. The bras are sold onto one of our textile grading partners. These quality used garments are in great demand, particularly in West Africa, where traders can buy and sell second-hand bras in markets at affordable prices.
Q. How does the Yorkshire Air Ambulance make money from the bras?
A. The bras are worth more money per tonne than most other textiles. This is because it takes a lot of bras to make up a tonne! We hasten to add though, please keep donating all other clothes, shoes and textiles into our charity textile banks. These are invaluable, and a sustainable source of income for the charities.
Q. How long is the campaign running for?
A. Our aim is to collect 200,000 bras, which will generate £10,000 of funds for the charity. You can see our bra total on the campaigns page to find out how we are doing so far!
Mobile Phone Campaigns
Q. Why is it so important that I recycle my mobile phone?
A. Mobile phones are made of highly toxic materials. Recycling your old mobile phone will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, whilst keeping valuable material out of landfills, and will help conserve natural resources.
Q. What kind of mobile phones can be recycled?
A. All types of mobile phones can be recycled; we accept all old and new models but remember, the newer the model the more money you will help raise for your chosen charity!!
Q. Can I donate my charger too?
A. Unfortunately, no. Please do not put chargers in the freepost envelope as the cost of the postage may outweigh the value of the phone. However, if you collect more than 20 mobile phones then we can organise a collection of the phones with their chargers. To organise a collection please call 0870 321 5505.
Q. Do I need to remove anything from my mobile before donating it?
A. Yes, if you could remove your sim card, but that is all.
Q. I have a fairly recent model of phone, but it’s broken, will you still accept it?
A. Yes, of course we will! All phones that are given to us are reused and recycled. Broken phones are sent away to be repaired. If they are completely unusable then they are dismantled and completely recycled.
Q. Why do people in developing countries rely on mobile phones?
A. As in many developing countries, getting a fixed landline can be difficult to do and very expensive.
Q. So, how can a mobile phone affect the life of somebody living in a developing country?
A. Second-hand mobile phones are an affordable means of communication that allow businesses to run more efficiently and families to stay in touch more easily.
Ink Cartridges
Q. Which ink cartridges can I donate?
A. You can donate small Inkjet and DeskJet cartridges, but only those that will fit into our freepost envelopes. We can only accept original cartridges, but no Epson’s please.
Q. Why can’t you accept Epson and larger toner cartridges?
A. We do not accept Epson cartridges because they can’t be refilled, and therefore re-sold. Many of the larger ink cartridges can be re-sold, but unfortunately the cost of collections outweighs their value.
