Ysanne Legg on Bra Collecting Mission

Ysanne collecting Bras SM WEB VERSION

Ysanne Legg from Alton has so far collected a whopping 1,500 bras for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.  Here's her story:

“Why I started? Well that’s easy! I know what a good cause this is for, both for the HIOWAA charity and the developing world.

“First of all, I contacted my friends, and they started dropping off their bras they no longer wanted, then they contacted their friends too. I found it a bit of a personal thing, so as soon as everybody realised I had a collection box on my porch, (so nobody knew who brought which bras in), well, it just seemed to escalate. Then I put an advert on Facebook, and to all my dancing contacts; I now have help from the local Scouts group, community centre, Alton College and Treloar College.

“The Herald newspaper soon got hold of the info, and offered a collection point in the centre of town, at their office. Following this, the local slimming groups got involved, followed by local station, Kestral Radio, and the Post Gazette newspaper.

“Every morning I wake up, I check my mail box, Facebook and email… wow, still more are arriving! I thought it would fade out, but hey, I am now even busier than ever, collecting more and more bras. Up to date, I have collected 1,500 bras, which Bag It Up has taken for processing. The most amazing thing is, I collected the 1,500 in just under 9 weeks! Amazing what you can do with the help of friends.”
